This is the kind of plate I love. I found four of these this weekend, and was very tempted to keep them for myself. But eBay calls.
The photo doesn’t do justice to the beauty of this plate. The embossed rim is very thick with flowers and vining leaves on the 9-inch white body. The transferware design of “band-tailed pigeons” is richly colored and beautifully shaped, taken directly from Audubon’s elephant folio edition of Birds of America. And it was endorsed at the time of manufacture (probably the 1930s) by the Audubon Society!
The other birds I found were Carolina turtle dove, kingbird, and cedar bird (waxwing).
